New Mix + DJ Simon

A few bits of news:

It's been a year since my last mix, so I felt it was time for a new one (a recent DJ mix competition also helped establish a rigid deadline). The mix, called "PJs," is available in the "mixes" section of my site. Since the two share similar tracks, this new compilation will replace the November Balance Live Set.

On Wednesday, February 22nd, I'll be DJing my regular monthly gig at Balance. DJ Simon, an out-of-town headliner that plays a lot of electro and electro-inspired dance music, will be our guest. Fellow Residents Spoon and Justin Matthews will be there, as well as an appearance by DJ Justin Kase. Click the pics for details!

Balance Residency: New Location at Club Ice on Demonbreun

Hi Everyone - Balance, one of the most successful Electronic Music weeklys in Nashville, has a new home. Starting this Wednesday, we'll be playing at Club Ice, on Demonbreun. The club is located in a strip of posh clothing shops & restaurants at the end of Music Row, near the Roundabout.

Yours truly will be playing this upcoming Wednesday (Jan. 22), along with Spoon and Justin Matthews. Cover (including ample parking) is FREE, so come check out the new place and the drink specials.

Oh, and speaking of the previously-mentioned MIDI controller, here's a quick snap of it. Expect a full-fledged website in the coming months!

Justin Sloe: Come Uppance 3

One of my favorite DJs, Justin Sloe, has recently come out with a new mix. I'm going to be hosting it in the 'influences' section of my site. Space constraints will force this new mix to replace his previous volume.

The mix is available here.

October Update

This past Summer/early Fall has been a surprisingly fruitful one, especially considering my short tenure as a DJ here in Nashville.

Some major highlights include: closing for Jonene at Balance, playing the patio at Audity Central, two downtempo/lounge gigs in quick succession, and the always enjoyable Tea Dance events. As a pure spectator, I've had the great pleasure to see Jamie Thinnes, Jay Tripwire, Mark Farina, and Hernan Cattaneo.

Most importantly, I've gotten to know some well-respected promoters and DJs, and am constantly impressed by their professionalism and devotion to their craft. They truly understand the push-and-pull between pure idealism and the realities of working in the big-little city that is Nashville.

In other DJ-related news, the Nashville DJ school is finally starting to get up and running, with some great students that have a true appreciation for quality music.

Also, my job as writer for DJ Times has afforded me many opportunities to attend and participate in DJ-related trade shows throughout the summer. I've been able to meet the people responsible for making and distributing my favorite gear, and have had some great conversations with people about the future of DJing.

Finally, I hope to be showing off some pictures of a custom MIDI controller I have been building recently. Links should be up in a couple of weeks.

As always, feel free to download my mixes and to contact me with any questions or comments. I hope to have a downtempo mix available soon.
